Street Furniture Australia, Blaklash , and the 2022 Festival of Landscape Architecture: COUNTRY Creative Directorate have come together to create a collaborative project that will result in a bench for "Elements of Country" featuring artwork by the talented Quandamooka, Nunukul woman, Casey Coolwell-Fisher of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island, Queensland). The project is a part of Street Furniture Australia's donation of $40,000 worth of furniture from the breakout spaces of the 2022 Festival of Landscape Architecture: COUNTRY to The Murri School, an Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School in Brisbane.
The bench is a unique piece of functional art that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the First Nations people. The artwork by Casey Coolwell-Fisher will bring life to the bench and provide a stunning addition to the school's outdoor spaces. This project is a demonstration of our commitment to making a positive impact on the community and sharing our culture, experiences, and responsibilities with future generations.
"It's great to see Street Furniture Australia act on their responsibility to give back to the community with their donation to The Murri School. The bench for 'Elements of Country' featuring Casey Coolwell-Fisher's beautiful artwork is a perfect example of how we can celebrate and preserve our culture for future generations."
– Troy Casey, Director of Blaklash and Creative Directorate of the 2022 Festival of Landscape Architecture: COUNTRY
This collaborative project is an exciting opportunity to bring together the expertise of Street Furniture Australia, the creativity of Blaklash Creative, and the cultural significance of the Festival Creative Directorate. The end result will be a beautiful and functional bench that will provide students and staff of The Murri School with a place to relax and connect. We are proud to be a part of this project and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the community.
